Can I infer from this that you don't think SharePoint is appropriate for a good ol' public facing www. site where they all need to look very different and do very different things?Jon Markshttp://jonontect.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-439476142880617528.post-79161792348349703462009-04-15T19:23:00.000+01:002009-04-15T19:23:00.000+01:00Andy, I mostly agree with you. My SharePoint in Action series highlights this clearly (see here if interested:

http://johnfmoore.wordpress.com/2009/03/06/sharepoint-in-action-project-management/

)

However, it is a powerful application development platform that people can, and should, extend as needed. Keep it simple if you can but be unafraid to make it less simple if needed.

John
http://twitter.com/JohnFMooreAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-439476142880617528.post-63095456420663998402009-04-02T10:20:00.000+01:002009-04-02T10:20:00.000+01:00I agree up to a limit...Can we really refrain from...I agree up to a limit...
Can we really refrain from adding too many custom-made to WSS/MOSS when the users require more ?

I remember the time when the EDITOR (MS) like Lotus would just say: "customise the basic features and we won't support you when you upgrade a minor release"
now Microsoft has no choice as the environment is so open to customise it that they have to help customers when they screw up the environment.
Using Solutions & Features for customisation should be Best Practice though so that environment can be restored / re-installed quickly.nicofarshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09496543969941185926noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-439476142880617528.post-88334252386502903662009-04-01T12:24:00.000+01:002009-04-01T12:24:00.000+01:00That is the way we use to develop our SharePoint S...That is the way we use to develop our SharePoint Simple CMS.
The change from the previous version of Sharepoint to the current was terrible. I hope we won't see the same problems with SharePoint.
